Profile on our Conference Speaker ‘A Man of Faith Dr Nyquist’
Have you ever wondered whether a single gospel tract left on a table or park bench could really make the difference in someone’s life?
It did for Moody’s president, Dr. Paul Nyquist.
“I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior on September 25, 1972 when I was a freshman at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb.
“One day, as I was going back to my dorm, I saw a pamphlet on the floor and picked it up. To my surprise it was a Gospel tract that someone had discarded. Later that evening, while I was alone in my room, I read it and learned how I could know for sure that I would be going to heaven. That night in the quiet of my dorm with no one else present, I put my trust in Jesus Christ as my Savior.
“Two weeks later, a friend invited me to a Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC) meeting. Several CCC staff members befriended me, and that began a mentoring relationship that lasted four years. It was through this example that I began discipling others, which has become part of my calling.”
For 28 years, Nyquist has continued to minister to people with the simple truth that he learned through reading that gospel tract. As a pastor in a local church, he had the opportunity to impact thousands in a particular region. When presented with the opportunity to lead Avant Ministries, an international mission agency, he accepted the challenge. This was an opportunity to not just have a regional influence, but to touch the world by sending out strategically formed missionary teams throughout the globe to disciple others and plant churches.
Through his leadership at Moody Bible Institute, Nyquist will help to prepare the next generation of Christian leaders to serve the world in missions, Christian education, church ministry and evangelism. Through the broad reach of Moody’s radio and publishing ministries, he will continue to have a hand in the discipleship of millions as they experience a fresh encounter with God’s Word through what they hear and read.
